Vibrant, colourful sponge outcroppings make a striking contrast against the white sandy slopes of Las Palmas. Twisted rope sponges of green and orange and lacy purple sea fans are scattered liberally throughout the low profile reef. Amongst the huge barrel sponges elegant French angelfish and small schools of grunts and grey snapper find shelter from the swirling current. Out in the blue water huge schools of southern sennet and boga can sometimes be spotted as they hurriedly pass through the reef.
